Rye is a tiny miniature horse adopted through Sunkissed Acres. Originally part of a very large agricultural seizure, Rye and several other small horses came to live at Screamin’ E farm in Alabama. He was later brought to Sunkissed Acres and finally to his permanent home here in Upstate NY at The Farm at Nanticoke Creek. |
Rye has some special needs we keep a close eye on. Despite his size, he doesn’t have dwarf characteristics, but he does have a Wry mouth, hence his name…Rye. His crooked little face is endearing and he is able to chew just fine, but he will require consistent dental work to maintain a healthy mouth. Most horses born with a Wry mouth are euthanized because so few can lead normal lives without surgical invention. The surgery is very costly at $4,000+ so generally only those with profitable future are operated on. In his short time here he has educated many horse owners regarding this birth defect.
Rye is also in training to become a visiting member of the Borrowed Freedom Equine Therapy team and is part of our unmounted horsemanship classes. Rye loves to play! He has a favorite soccer ball that he keeps near at all times! He also has learned to play basketball and can sort objects much to the delight of his adoring fans!
He is truly a special little horse, and we think he is winner!
***Please note*** Rye is an unofficial entry and cheerleader for all who enter. Votes for Rye will support our participating rescues, but he is ineligible to win any of the prizes.
